Used to have a White Copen, but I sold it in 2023
On the 1.3 you can do it easily, but on a 0.6 like yours I have no idea how it works. Best to keep it original or do what marnob did and modify the existing box

You can do pretty much the same as most cars with a new intake pipe and filter.
For the L880K (Turbo) model you can buy a few different intake styles like the HKS POD types.
This will replace the whole standard factory Air Box of course.
I opted not to change it for a couple of reasons:
1, expense. Money better spent elsewhere as I am not going to race it.
2, keep it looking standard. Some State Cops get funny about POD set ups and Mods here and in doing that I kept the original
    Air Element.
One thing though, D-Sport make an great upgraded Air Element that slides straight in the same box!
It has a larger intake hole and works a treat. Not much difference in buying an original filter here from Toyota.

Question for marnob or anyone with an export version of the 660 cc L880K please. I saw the D-Sport aluminum intake pipe Kit for Daihatsu Copen (L880K) for sale at the monocolle shop on Rakuten.

    http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/mono/item/10009173/

I (foolishly?) asked monocolle whether this product would fit my copen and received this reply, severe grammar and syntax errors corrected, so an approximate quote:
"This item is for exclusive use on domestic models. The L880RK-KMVZO {my copen type} is an Australia/NZ use model, so this intake pipe kit can {might? won't?} not be suitable for your car."
I am not at all clear how my copen might differ from the domestic copens. Maybe the guy answering my email didn't really know the answer, so gave a safe no? Certainly the intercooler, turbo, and engine should be identical? Has anyone fitted this kit on their copen?

As far as I'm aware, the Australian model is virtually identical to the domestic, that's why you can use the D-Sport ECU whilst european models can't. Even the European turbos though are I believe mechanically identical, that piping should fit all the 660cc versions.

    Hi Joy,
Yes it will fit all L880K Copens, which are the Turbo models.
Sounds like just a safe answer like you said. Translation from English to Japanese doesn't work well as they don't have an Alfabet.

What you are looking at is a replacement parts or parts for the Intercooler intake pipe only not the Air Cleaner side.
To be honest, do something with the Air Filter side first as this will give you the most HP change for little cost.
    Cheaper on Yahoo.

The D-Sport Intercooler pipe is very expensive which is why I didn't buy one. I bought an after market one instead.
Around 19,000yen or so. It is Stainless as well which makes it a lot stronger.
I also kept the last piece of the Mod original and didn't worry about changing it. Didn't see the need as it doesn't matter
either way. The shiny pipe looks nice so maybe one day?
I will put a photo up later today.
The only difference is you will not be able to fit the Engine cover back on after its fitted as it doesn't have a lug to screw into.
Hence why D-Sport make there own Engine Cover as well.

    You have a few choices:
Modify the Air Cleaner Box like I did and also replace the standard Filter for a D-Sport one.
Just replace the Filter with a D-Sport one.
Replace the Box completely with an HKS Pod setup or similar.

Hi Joy, yeah I looked at that for a number of years actually..its a nice replacement.
By the time all the fee's and freight are put on, I decided to invest that money into a stainless induction pipe and in the end a larger Intercooler.
But, hey its really good quality addition to your car.
You should notice the difference straight away?
Did you get a D-Sport air filter as well?
Combined together its as good as a Pod I reckon!

Yes, I decided the idea of ventilating the induction box was equally as good as a pod, with the advantage of being able to use the same filters and keeping the area looking tidy. The stainless J-Works box is overkill, but sure looks nice
I made several changes over several winter rainy weeks with little driving. I did get the D-sport air filter & induction pipe, + replaced the OEM exhaust system with HKS also. (The larger intercooler may come next month) Definitely seems to power up more quickly and smoother. Still with the OEM computer and turbo, but I would not be surprised if the power has been boosted 20%.

Ok good. It is an easy replacement and I bet it looks great!
I didn't go with the D-Sport Induction pipe as it was nearly twice the price of an after market one & it was alloy. (I saw one for sale a while ago with a hole where the lug had pulled away)
Mine is Stainless Steel and slightly shorter which mean't the air had less distance to travel.
I was going to put a photo up so I best do that.
As for exhaust, I took it to an exhaust place and had a new 2" downpipe made and also removed the middle muffler.
It now runs a 2" pipe from the Turbo to the flange that connects the tail pipe.
No need to go any further as the the size difference wouldn't have made any change in power.
That alone made another huge difference.

It was an after market one but fitted perfectly without the need to remove the front bar.
It was on one of the Japanese auction sites.

If anyone is interested, I've had a quote, in July 2018, for a bespoke performance panel air filter from ITG, through SBD Motorsport in the UK. The price was £70.00 +VAT + shipping and would take 2-3 weeks to be made from date of ordering. Contact: enquiries@sbdmotorsport.co.uk www.sbdev.co.uk 0208 391 0121.
