Yeah, did that yesterday - can't hear any obvious hissing apart from (probably) the drain hole in the muffler. That doesn't rule out the exhaust, though. I started her up, and attached my DS-2. Any OBD-II scanner should be able to do this, though. The bank 2 short term fuel trim, at idle was 62% at 780RPM (!) and reduced to 50% when at 2800RPM for a few minutes. This may indicate a vacuum leak. One of the pipes looks dodgy as fuck... like the old owner cut a piece of PVC pipe and glued it to the ends of a proper vacuum hose. Doesn't explain why the hydrocarbon count is so low on the high RPM test (7ppm instead of 31ppm last year, and 23ppm the year before that). Looking at last years result, the lambda was 1.02 - so just skirted past as anything 1.00±0.03 is a pass. The tester never mentioned that last year, so I never bothered looking.
The exhaust cracked on a rusty weld... You should see my eye twitching. Taking her to a mechanic with a SS welder tomorrow to seal up the 1 inch long gash along where the weld broke.
Indeed. Someone is getting a bollocking when I get photos of the crack. If she'll pass the NCT, I'll be happy - not as if it's pissing out CO or HC because of a hole pre-cat. Then I'll have to save up for a brand new exhaust again, which is difficult when you're saving up for your wedding and honeymoon
The exhaust saga took a comical turn yesterday. There wasn't a crack, the people who made and installed the exhaust forgot to weld all the pipe around! Ironically, this was on the bottom part of the exhaust, and about an inch long!
Passed the failed emissions test! Likely I'll fail it next year, though, as it was a single point off of failure - that might have been because the LTFT was all outta whack from the missing weld. We'll find out next year!
Actually, if anyone happens to have the emissions printout of their last MOT / Annual Car Test, please send them on to me. My hydrocarbon count seems very low at 17ppm, and CO2 at 0.02%
I have my TÜV report here... It says CO is 0.0 and Lambda is 1.003 No hydrocarbon readings. Usually the emissions test is done via OBDII in Germany, no probes in the exhaust
Thank you folks for the Lambda and CO readings! Today, I started working on changing the speedo dial from MPH/KPH to KPH only. The bezel pops off in your hand with a decent tug, and it's held in with 4x 10mm bolts. I stopped after seeing the bolts, as I'm gonna get some alcohol wipes to clean the outside and inside of the plastic covering... and to get new bulbs (I'm assuming T5 bulbs, so bought a few cheapo LED bulbs from DX.com). It's been about 2 weeks since I've driven her, and the battery charge is ~60% - so I took the battery out and am charging it again. I'm a bit disconcerted about how quickly the battery is being drained, seeing as the draw is either 3 or 30mA, and the frequent need to top off the battery considering most of my driving is motorway.
Hi Nick Where did you source your smoked indicators from, am looking for a pair but am struggling to find Best wishes Nathan ick
Can't find any smoked myself, some clear versions on sakura_car though, could try contacting them through ebay. sakura-car | eBay I'd also get chrome bulbs to go with your new ones, they show orange when lit but look cooler when not. 2 x 501 T10 W5W SILVER CHROME Side Indicators Repeater Car Bulbs | eBay These are mine with the chrome bulbs in and there's a video under the picture- Darren Rothwell <-- video of the bulbs on FB Copen group
