I've just had a look at the listings pictures and that fob is pretty much a standard type cobra alarm fob. Earlier I didn't look at the pictures just the description. Had I looked at the pics I would have said don't buy it. What were the chances of that being from an alarmed copen? Not many original buyers took up that option and it never occurred to me that it would be anything but a standard fob. You'll never get that fob to operate your car you need a two button Daihatsu fob. I'd stick that one back on eBay or on here you never know.
No worries, the seller will refund me if I return it, there are so many kind and helpful people out there including you & all the Copenworld guys! Just to check, there is another one for sale on Ebay: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAIHATSU-COPEN-OE-CENTRAL-DOOR-REMOTE-NEW-/191391727650 which has two buttons on it, unlock / lock - can't see an led but it might be a poor pic?? Is this what I should get? I have emailed all the other breakers of copens I can find to see if I can get it cheaper. Thank you as always for your invaluable help!
Oooooh what about this one?? "http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAIHATSU-CHARADE-4TRACK-ETC-2-BUTTON-REMOTE-FOB-/121478565160
It looks identical to the copen fob. However it is now sold. The new fob you linked to is pricey but should work with your car. I'd rather have a new fob than a used one but I'm not sure id pay that much.
Why don't you fit or have fitted a cobra alarm. The cobra's fob can be linked into the cars central locking to operate the doors. There are many makes of alarm for sale that you could fit, but a cobra is kind of original fitment being as they were fitted by Daihatsu UK for buyers who wanted an alarm. I fitted a cobra alarm to a car with non remote central locking a few years back and it converted the cars original central locking to remote control. It was easy to fit and apart from the CL it obviously alarmed the car. Its worth a thought anyway. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COBRA-ALA...175?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2569cc4ee7
It was me who bought it! It arrived today and works perfectly, followed the reset intructions you put me onto, so grateful to you! And it opens the boot, looks brand new too, a bargain Thank you for your help, couldn't have done it without you x Just read your reply re: cobra alarm, I do need to think about that at some time, but fob sorted for now!
Nice one, glad its all worked out. Also we now know that other identical looking Daihatsu fobs work with the copen. So anybody looking for a fob can expand their search away from one car only.
Yes, it was a bit of a find - I have got a scrappy looking out for any so that I can collect them - he's got a big bucket full apparently of old fobs - I'll post on here if he finds any!
I couldn't find ANY from a UK scrappy. Ended up going to Yahoo Auctions Japan, and found one without issue
Hi Everyone, I've been following your 'remote fob' posts with interest over the last few days as I needed one for my Copen. I think copenkate must have clicked the 'buy' button on ebay about 5 seconds before I did but never mind, another fob appeared on Saturday morning for £20 and I got it. The fob arrived today (looks brand new) but the battery was duff so I went in search of one - they are not a particularly popular size but I eventually found one at Maplin (Halfords do them as well). I followed the reset instructions but without success - the doors lock and unlock after the first stage (within 15 seconds of reconnecting the negative terminal press and hold both buttons for 5 seconds or more) but they only lock after carrying out the second stage (within 5 seconds press and hold both buttons for at least 1 second) - they don't unlock. Question for copenkate - when you reset your central locking did you follow the instructions to the letter or did you have to experiment with timings until it worked? Question for anyone - have you had similar problems when trying to reset a remote fob? Look forward to hearing from you.
After I submitted the last post I did a bit of 'googling' to see if there was any other information 'out there' regarding resetting a remote fob to a car. I found the procedure below on the Daihatsu Drivers UK website - after the problems I had earlier I'm happy to say that it worked for me: 1. Unlock the car, remove the key from the ignition and shut the doors. 2. Disconnect the negative connection from the car battery and leave off for at least 2 minutes. 3. Re-connect the negative connection to the battery. 4. Press and hold down both buttons on the remote until the doors lock and immediately unlock. Let go of the buttons. 5. Press the unlock button once - the doors will lock and unlock again. The fob is now matched to the car. 6. For a second remote, repeat from Stage 4 immediately. Notes: There is probably a time limit to get it all done - I don't know what it is but I did all stages without a delay between them and it worked. When you reconnect the negative battery connection at Stage 2 just push it on - don't tighten the bolt up until you've finished resetting the remote - but don't forget!!! I've read elsewhere on the forum that pressing the remote unlock button for more than a couple of seconds should unlock the boot lid - that now works as well! A successful evening which deserves a glass of red - I hope this is of some use to you all.
I find with the boot opening thing that if I move as I press and hold down the open button the boot doesn't release. So if anybody finds that their boot won't open stand still.
