I'm intrigued myself as to why he was so difficult. You'd think he would want to get the car sold. Maybe he doesnt want to let the go really after falling for its charms
I've made contact with the sellers of the other copen. They seem really nice and genuine. Its got three keys. I forgot to ask about the manuals/handbook. No problems identified when I did a check on the car. Apparently the AC does work but its not as cold as it should be. What could be the problem and is it expensive? They had the bonnet resprayed so that looks lovely but elswhere there are some bubbles on the aluminium body work. I understand from reading on here that that is due to corrosion. How do you repair and prevent that? Its been standing on a drive for months. Will this have harmed the new battery they got a few months ago The reg letters spell SEXX. Will this cause problems for me as a single lady?
Where are these bubbles? Only really the roof is alloy. Wheel arch bubbles are what you want to avoid as they will only get worse. Most common on the rear. Car batteries need to be used, but if it was new a couple of months ago more than likely it will be fit for purpose after a charge/drive.
Hi threepot, He's going to send me pics of the bumps under the paint. All servicing was done by a mechanic who was a friend of the family therefore no stamps in the book apparently. I thought for some reason the body panels were aluminium
I almost just want to buy it so I can tell "Alex" and remind him that if he's dealing with a single woman he needs to engender a bit more trust if he expects her to travel miles with a wad of money in her handbag.
I should be alright a for a while then old badger, I only take my top down when its really hot!!! I did snigger childlishly when the seller told me the Reg, but then so did he, and neither of said a word as to why
The bonnet, roof and boot lid are aluminium the side panels and doors are mild steel. The bubbles are caused by poor preparation when the factory painted the car. Aluminium doesn't rust it corrodes into a white powder and if this starts happening under the paint the paint will bubble. A small bodyshop will be able to sort it out for a reasonable cost. I said a small body Shop because their is a massive difference in their prices compared to one of the big players. My Mrs dinged the rear arch of her Picasso and took it to an insurance approved well known body repairers. They quoted £800plus vat. I told her to take it to a small paint shop near where we live, did it for £180 all in.
Threepots I promise I'll show some topless photo's, I just need some more time, I am a lady afterall . Dag, Im in the middle of buying a house (Im sacrificing furniture and white goods for this car) and a friend of a friend owns a garage nearby. Im sure they will help at a reasonable cost. Ill post the pics of the bubbles when I get them.
Her husband Scott, Dag. The've had the baby now. She couldnt fit in the car pregnant and the copen been stagnating on his parents drive ever since. Bless
I think the Stoke one sounds good.If they put the battery on it recently it will have a guarantee but after such a short time i expect it will be fine. Not sure there are many completely rust free ones out there ,but poss get your fingernails dirty and have a go at rust prevention to slow down / stop the corrosion getting worse .Lots of advice on here about that. Keep us posted on the viewing and i hope its the one for you Chris
Hope you get yourself sorted soon. Of course, I'm sure you will want to add your own personal touches to your Copen once you get one bought. How about a super cool pool ball gear knob for example....... Just wander over to the for sale section and send me a pm. Shameless, totally shameless plug..... lol
I've been away and have missed this story ! Gripping ! 007 you did right turning down that car in Sunderland. I had the same run around with a ridiculously cheap 1.3 in Belfast. He wouldn't send proof of ownership and wanted to do a cash transfer at the airport. When I insisted on the documents he was 'offended' and blocked by email ! Take my advice be patient and look for one in your neighbourhood. As far as a bone shaking ride is concerned, well that's why sports cars are sports cars. It's called HANDLING. Having said that I just drove from Peterborough to Leicester and arrived with an enormous smile on my face. I have a 2004 by the way. Ned
Hiramscodd - Ive got cruddy nails so I dont mind getting them dirty! Ive read many the rustproofing posts on this site and was saddened to see that despite his efforts, the rust to Adam K's car returned. Do you think the stuff you used is better than the stuff Adam K used. What about Stickypinkyfingers use of hammerite first, then a coating of the stuff you used? (Am I the only one to pronounce his name in my head as Stinkypinkyfinger, which conjers up all sorts of horribleness in my mind which I quickly block ?) Dunf - Thanks for the offer but I prefer my nobs to be au natural! Nedryerson - Thanks for the support. Im glad Im not the only one to have offended the person they tried to buy a car from. Who would have known car dealers were such a sensitive bunch. Im not too worried about the handling of the car. A long hard ride is good for the soul...so Im told! Old Badger and threepots- The double entendres were for your pleasure!
Did you near about the young lady who walked into a bar and asked for a double entendre? The barman gave her one.
