I've been driving mine for about 5 years...had one lady walk up to me and ask to buy it on the spot (nope), have had a lot of people ask what it is. I'm in and out of the car in various locations for my work, and these days if I see someone looking at the car when I'm walking back to it, I'll actually wait until they leave before I go and get in. Otherwise the "interview" starts... I've been told I'm driving "the car from Monopoly", a client's husband said "someone's parked a shopping trolley out the front", another client's neighbours sent them an email saying "there's a ridiculous little car parked in your spot". To me it's just my mobile office. Having said that, there are a couple of stretches of road that I drive, that the car really responds well to, and I love to give it some revs!!!
Yes Baobab, This happens to me in Perth. There were some people who stopped traffic near my place (IE stopped their car in the lane next to mine at peak hour traffic) to look at my car, they were waving at me. There was also a couple from Denmark who had circled the car for around 15 minutes while i was down the road, and on my return they said "we want this car" "its perfect for us" I like the monopoly car though, Im going to use it. ATM my copen is broken, clutch cable but nearly fixed. I assume your copen has been de-badged?
Here in Japan people are very subtle, won't really turn to look at any special car if it is on the road or in a parking lot. Not me though - exotics & old cars make me look. Go to a car meet / race track / highway rest area known for cool cars & then people look at cars. After deciding to buy a Copen I'd go up to one in a parking lot out of curiosity. I looked at 40+ on dealer lots while deciding what exterior / interior colours & options I liked best. I still turn my head when seeing one on the street. I see another Copen about 1/2 the days I drive, give a thumbs up.
Had a good one today where a chap deliberately changed lanes going into a roundabout so that I would draw up alongside him. As the roof was down in this glorious weather, he asked the usual questions about make & model and then commented on what a 'brilliant' car it is. I drove the rest of the way home rather smugly, thank you very much!
Twas a good day of Copening today.. the petrol station near where I was staying only had 98 Octane, the car loves it....anyone who saw me today would've only seen the back of me, that's for sure.
Got a knock on my door last week, from a guy passing by in his works van, Gary from Dundee, he,d just bought a turbo in England and saw mine in the passing, had a happy half hour talking copen, took him indoors and introduced him to this site and a couple off handy addresses If anyone is in my neck of the woods next sunday come to stirling classic car show, biggest in Scotland 850 cars 30 trade stands , I will be on the gate!
Was in Ayr on one of those lovely February days when an old couple were watching me get out of the car. They apologised saying they were admiring my car and asked me what it was. A charming chat ensued and they told me about their young days and their motoring pleasures which included Triumph Spitfires. Quite delightful !
Hi William, I had a very similar experience whilst waiting for my wife, in a Sainsbury car park, I was standing outside my car. An elderly couple approached me and said what a lovely car. I explained that, they are great fun but a little impractical with the roof down, they loved the car. Regards Clayton
Just had a lady come up to me when I was cleaning my car today, says she admires it every time she goes past.
I once noticed a couple crossing the street in front of me, noticing the car and stopping to point an giggle (in a good way)... all this time I was driving towards them... I guess they felt that something so cute could not kill you. Like panda bears maybe. I had to slow down until they realised they were on the middle of the street and rushed to the other side.
Everywhere I go here (Aust) I get nothing but great comments about my Copen, usually starting with "What sort of car is that...?" Everyone, young and old, from farmers in dirty trucks, to tradies in their Dual Cab Hiluxes to, yes, pretty girls, say "what a beautiful car that is!". It seems to hit a sweet spot, whereas your average Porsche Boxster just makes you look like a bit of a wanker. It just draws attention & onlookers wherever I go. It feels really good.
I mostly get people wondering if I'm gay. With my other car (Nissan 350 Roadster) I get people asking if it's my girlfriends car. I drive a Transit van for work and that means nobody talks to me, ever. I prefer that.
