Most here in HK are manuals, which I would have preferred to be honest - however my GF can only drive an Auto and as she doesn't drink beer very often it was a good compromise to get me to the pub and back It's excellent for town - but my biggest gripe with it is from a standing start; there's a massive lag while it creeps forward to about 20kph and then it launches forward at full chat. Imagine really severe turbo lag... And that in itself isn't so bad - except at the big roundabout I use most days. I see a gap, floor it and it creeps into the path of a looming Juggernaut. Just when I think I'm about to die, the lorry driver is on the horn and about to stab his brakes - the Copen wakes up and shoots off as if it knows it's in danger. Honestly, it must look like I'm driving like a twat on purpose I also reckon my 0-60 (currently sitting at 12s, down from 15 after various mods) would easily be <10s if it didn't do it. It's actually surprisingly brisk once it gets into its stride
MATT!! Do you realise what car you've got???? BF52 AWZ?? Your's is a star car mate! Believe it or not James May's rear end has occupied your driver's seat as YOUR car was the very one tested by Top Gear in my very own Lake District (haha!) back in 2003. Here's the TG prog on YouTube the Copen-clip is about 14 minutes in. See? That's yours, isn't it? Good to see that it's ended up with a Copenista from Copenworld - tada! If you want to check out my thread about the Top Gear Copen-tour, it's here: Re-tracing the 'Top Gear' Copen-tour So, whatever you paid for it, it's worth a little more as it's a STAR CAR! Good choice, mate - well done you!
This is genuinely so cool haha, I would never have known that it was on top gear, seems to have lost the Copen s stickers on the sideskirts over the years. I pick the car up tomorrow although I think it's raining
Well, Matt, did those windscreen wipers work OK? Guess it was well wet in the south (judging by the news reports). All back and getting to grips with your TopCopen? S stickers are fairly easy to locate on ebay - the Honda S and Mini Cooper S decals are dead ringers for the Copen one, so just add that to your (growing) list of things to do. So .... have a ball and post the odd pic/update so we can cheer you on!
Ok so a few new bits I've done to the car now, got the Copen S stickers which were originally on the car (well they were on top gear) and put them back on, bought a small turbo sticker which I put on my wind deflector, and a new gear knob which is awesome.
Almost forgot! I changed my numberplate bulb for an LED one also today after I cleaned and polished the car.
Im envious...your numberplates fit the cutout in the bumper nicely...unfortunately they are not allowed here :/ Is the shift knob a screw-on type or did you have to clamp it in place?
Yeah the gear knob came with three different inserts depending on what size thread you have on the gear stick, I simply put one of the inserts on for the correct size and began screwing it on I like to actually see the numbers and reverse layout on the gear knob my previous one was just silver so if you had never drove one you had to guess where reverse was haha.
Back when I was looking for a custom shift knob there were hardly any to choose from and they were quite pricey (50€ and up). Copen has a weird thread pattern, 12x1.25 I think Ended up having one custom made by a leatherworker, black leather with red stitching, looks like a baseball The shift pattern is imprinted on the center console, nobody notices
So today I started with the paint I bought and used some carbon wrap on my interior, grill needs another two coats and some lacquer but this is how it looks so far.
Looks better in my opinion, they were silver before and had a couple of light sratches, so that does the job quite well
So I finished spraying my grill tonight, managed to get another can of paint and finished it off with two coats of lacquer. This is what it turned out like...
I have done something similar to Dawn's Copen but gone for Red colour. Looks like "Waspy" is smiling and brings us a smile every time we see it
