Actually I just got a second hand Fob from Japan and the battery inside it was a CR1632 3 Volts? Also there is no screw or LED light. It just clips together and you need a sharp knife or finger nails to open it.
I have one of those as well, that I got from Yahoo Auctions. dx.com sell batteries for it cheap, if you don't mind waiting 2 months for them to arrive.
I tried matching a new fob (bought on ebay for £20 - almost brand new) but the instructions found elsewhere on the forum didn't work. I've copied the following from a reply I made to another thread on the forum - it may help others who are having problems: "After I submitted the last post I did a bit of 'googling' to see if there was any other information 'out there' regarding resetting a remote fob to a car. I found the procedure below on the Daihatsu Drivers UK website - after the problems I had earlier I'm happy to say that it worked for me: 1. Unlock the car, remove the key from the ignition and shut the doors. 2. Disconnect the negative connection from the car battery and leave off for at least 2 minutes. 3. Re-connect the negative connection to the battery. 4. Press and hold down both buttons on the remote until the doors lock and immediately unlock. Let go of the buttons. 5. Press the unlock button once - the doors will lock and unlock again. The fob is now matched to the car. 6. For a second remote, repeat from Stage 4 immediately. Notes: There is probably a time limit to get it all done - I don't know what it is but I did all stages without a delay between them and it worked. When you reconnect the negative battery connection at Stage 2 just push it on - don't tighten the bolt up until you've finished resetting the remote - but don't forget!!! I've read elsewhere on the forum that pressing the remote unlock button for more than a couple of seconds should unlock the boot lid - that now works as well! A successful evening which deserves a glass of red - I hope this is of some use to you all."
Are the two minutes really needed? I'd imagine 30 seconds would do it. I've tried matching / programming 4 different key fobs to my Copen, none of which will work. However doing the steps you listed does make the already programmed fob get re-programmed.
I'm no expert but I remember reading somewhere that a couple of minutes allows any stored charge in the system to be dissipated, allowing the system to stabilise before reconnecting. There's bound to be someone on here who knows for sure. All I know is - it worked for me.
Paring up a remote fob - OldSoldierBill, not Scooty for me Managed to get a remote fob from an old Copen at a breakers. To match it up to my car I followed the instructions by Scooty on page 1 of this thread - these didn't work. I saw that OldSoldierBill said after the step where you hold both buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds and it locks/unlocks, you then press just one button (not both again) - this worked and fob now works perfectly on the doors and also on the boot (the 3-second hold down) After failing on the Scooty method, I took the battery out of the fob and put it back in a bit later thinking it might reset the fob. Not sure if this actually helps but could be worth a shot if you are having problems pairing up. Anyhow, thanks chaps for this very useful thread
Hi Guys, I am still after a key fob for my Copen since someone stole my coat last winter with the fob inside. I can't seem to find anything on the UK ebay. I managed to spot one on a Japanese auction website (see attached image) but that one has 2 buttons for locking and unlocking the doors where as mine has only one. Does anyone know if this will work? The car is a 2008 1.3L model. Thanks.
I tried one of those "types" of fobs, and couldn't get it working. It may have just been a dud fob, mind you. I might add, my fob has two buttons but is very different looking to the one in the photo - my Copen is a 2005 660cc. Now you *can* get the official fob, rough price in Ireland is 120 EUR (2015 prices). Any former Daihatsu dealer / maybe a toyota dealer can get them no problem.
I can confirm the advice in this thread worked perfectly. I managed to get a fob from eBay for £20 and followed the instructions by Your Majesty and it worked first time. Over the moon, thanks for all the collective knowledge.
Hi Guys would like to check how do we even open the remote.. it does not has screws around it. do we use a screwdriver and force it open?
There are a few different types of fob, but my Cobra one is just prised apart and snaps back together. I think most are the same
I know of two different standard Copen fobs. One I call the EU model, the other I call the Japan model. The Japan model is semi sealed, and the battery is glued into place with what looks like silicone sealant / caulk. Can you take a photo of your fob so we can see it?
That's the Japanese key fob! There are two places to pop the clips out on that fob - either end. I prefer to go from the "fat" end near the "unlock" etching. The battery is a nightmare to get out, be sure to use a sharp craft knife or stanley knife to get it out.
Mine is slightly different, but looks like the Japanese one. Just for future reference could anyone confirm. Many thanks
