@Salieri Not yet. The Denso plugs only arrived on Friday but my missus has been away in Geneva so I’ve been in the pub most of the weekend. I’m frantically trying to think of all the jobs she left me to do before she gets home in 5 hours time. If all else fails, I’ll go back down the pub !
Lol. Had a go today and failed. I managed to get past opening the bonnet, removing the slightly rounded and swollen nuts for the nine cover, and removing the coil pack on the first cylinder only to discover that my trusty 70s spark plug socket was designed in an era when plugs were visible from space ! Anyway, a local garage will swap them for me for a fiver which is cheaper than buying a new socket for a single use.
It's hard to believe I'm posting this but I'm likely going to be saying goodbye to Noddy after a very enjoyable 16 months of ownership as I fell across a Mazda MX5 that has been so well looked after that it still smells new. Noddy (the Copen) has been a bit of a labour of love over the last 15 months of my ownership and all of the work undertaken has been posted by me on here, so there's no place to hide ! He's metallic silver with around 57k miles (about 4k of mine). Although the service book is stamped, I'd count it as a partial history but during my ownership I've changed the transmission, brake, and coolant fluids, full dinitrol underseal and cavity treatment with 1 year warranty remaining, new alternator, bonnet respray (due to chips), plugs changed, and oil, oil filter, and air filter all done at 12 months ownership. It also had 4 new Nankang tyres as of 1st June which now ride perfectly since the rear wheels were rebalanced this afternoon. Bought for £5k and £2k spent where it counts (see above), it looks like going to P/X by the end of this week as I can't afford to bridge the finance but if anyone is local and can sort out the deal really quick, please get in touch. I'd be looking for £4,500.
This amazes me, all this time and effort you put into the car to make it last for years and you are willing to give it away... at a 2.5k deficit Is the MX-5 at least the one with the retractable hardtop?
@Salieri It is the 2.0 with retractable hood with heated leather seats and all the trimmings. I'm also only getting half the cost of what I paid but dont have the time or want the hassle of a private sale. My hope is it gets snapped up at auction and gets a similarly careful owner.
Great thread as I need to change my spark plugs and have not worked on a car like this for 30 years. Very Helpful.
