And where are you in Switzerland ? A grey Copen drive close to my town, I've seen an other grey one near my job, but no more... So, not so far from me. We can maybe meet us in the next summer ?
Out of interest.... Did you keep the original wheels and tyres? If so, are you likely to be offering them for sale at some time?
Yes, I still have the OEM wheels, but they're not for sale... I've to re-install those wheels for the tecnical inspection (expertise).
OK, no problem. Do you know if I change the tyre size up to 175 or 185, on the standard wheels, whether a) I have to notify the canton traffic office and b) will it fail expertise for not having the standard 165 tyres? (I asked at Euro master about fitting 175 50 R15 tyres, and they told me to go to the transport police and check with them first. I then went to another tyre shop, and they told me it would be OK.) Thanks.
IIRC, it's ok if the overall diameter is increased up to 5%, so 175/50 are ok. But, I believe that your OEM rims are 4.5' wide, so 175mm wide tire are too much. Can you confirm the rim width, please ?
The wheels are the standard, factory wheels, fitted with 165 50 r15 tyres. There are no markings on the wheels stating the size, so I have measured roughly across the wheel, and it's approximately 14.5cm, 5.7 inches. I guess that makes them 5.5 inches. I appreciate the help that you have been giving me, and it's even better that you are pretty local to me, and you're able to communicate with me in English.
I've found this info : Daihatsu Copen 2010 - Wheel & Tire Sizes, PCD, Offset and Rims specs So, it seems that the OEM rims are 4.5" wide. The MAK rims from my Pearl are 5.5" wide, so I'm sure some 175/50 can be fitted without any issue. You're welcome if you've any question ! And PM me in french for more accurate answer, my english is too poor to answer correctly sometimes...
I just looked in the manual for "le Red Noddy", it says the wheels are 15 x 4.5J. I looked at the pdf from the German Copen club, and there are some people who are using 175 50 15 tyres on the OEM, with no problems. I think that will be the way forward, when I have the cash to invest. J'arrive à parler français, et écrire aussi, mais pas toute à faire juste! Pour expliquer les choses techniques / mécanique, c'est encore plus pire !
Ok, great news if you can install 175/50 on the stock rims ! I hope it can be done soon. I'm also thinking about the same, especially if I'm not satisfied with my Nankang NS2R...I'll see this Summer.
I will now wait on the tyres. The letter arrived yesterday for expertise on 9th March. Why did they have choose my eldest daughters birthday for it?!
You can choose an other date for the expertise if you need , it's allowed without any taxe. Is the Red Noddy ready for the expertise ?
I hope he is! He's booked in for next Wednesday at an ex-Daihatsu garage who has looked after the family's cars for the last thirty years.
