crafty sods they had a few in stock @£8 obv a few members have bought them and they have realised there is a sudden demand!! A little naughty i think
Hi just wondering if aybody has tried fitting the blueprint add62108 filter and does it fit through the small hole? Thanks Liz
My mechanic friend got a filter from the local supplier, but when he tried to fit it, it was too tall. So he took it into his workshop and came out a few minutes later. He had put it in a vise and squashed the domed top of it down flat. He was then able to fit it. So, it shows that sometimes you have to use some imagination. Sadly, my friend passed away a couple of weeks ago.
Not sure that's such a good idea. The oil in filters sometimes run through the centre to the top of the filter then down the outside through the filter material. Squashing the top could restrict the flow.
@jez77 You may have a point there, but he didn't have much choice. He wasn't going to put the old one back, that looked like it hadn't been changed in years. But I think the oil usually flows from the centre, through the filter material and out. I suppose he knew that. Unfortunately, I can't ask him about it now. I've got a remote oil filter kit, and if I ever get around to actually fitting the thing, it's been suggested I could put it in the oil drain line from the turbo. I'm not sure about that, as it seems it would restrict the oil supply for the turbo, which doesn't seem like something you would want to do. But my expertise is more with electronics than mechanics, so I can't really say. What I can say is that that would be a lot easier than connecting it to the existing filter location. Then there's finding a place for the remote end... The beauty of that is you could fit a much larger filter, which might actually do some filtering. And a large filter would probably restrict the flow a lot less than a tiny one. I think.
Every remote filter kit I've used just bolt onto the existing filter location. Shouldn't need to make any other connections.
No, the idea is, you leave the original filter alone, just use the remote part and splice it in somewhere there's an oil line you can get at. This idea has some merits, but I don't know about the resulting restriction of oil flow through the turbo. Might be bad for it. I guess you'd get your knuckles rapped in the UK for even thinking of a mod like that.
This is what is normally used. It just spins onto the original oil filter location and you run 2 pipes to a remote oil filter mount. Defiantly don't go putting it in the turbo hose. No real point at the moment as we can still easily get filters off eBay and with a bit of practice they don't take long to fit.
@ jez77 Interesting. That looks more compact than the one I've got. I'll try and take a picture of it. The main advantage I can see to doing that is being able to use a bigger filter. Any chance of a description or tutorial on how you change the filter? My mechanic friend was saying lots of bad words as he was fitting the new filter. Sadly, he is no longer with us. Maybe also a link to where you get filters from? He got the filter from Bursons, and it didn't fit properly, in spite of being the right part number.
