Including shipping and import tax it will probably cost 250€ as well :D

If you want to search for stuff on Buyee, this may be obvious but you need to translate your items into japanese and paste them in.

    Radiator - ラジエーター

    Copen - コペン

https://buyee.jp/item/search/query/コペン?translationType=1 search on copen parts, look at those goodies - take-off seatbelt guides auctioning at £30, ultimate edition grill starting at £37, plus stuff I didn't even know existed :p

19% tax, so it would indeed be cheaper to buy locally if you need it fast (and it would be an OE Denso cooler, not some 3rd party stuff)

Still, they have some really nice parts there for cheap.
Its probably the same as with german cars here - parts are a lot cheaper than in other countries :D

Yeah doesn't help that there's no Daihatsu closer than Japan heh! That 3rd party one though is supposed to be an upgrade, dual layer, twice as thick. I agree it doesn't seem to need it really, as standard anyway, but if a higher grade replacement is close to equal price of a standard replacement, it might be worth it.

Are there no daihatsu dealers in the UK anymore?
We still have some, not in every city but nevertheless all over the country

BTW: The cooler for the 1.3 engine is different, even though it does not look like a lot of difference

We have ex-Daihatsu who can still get parts, but they have to be ordered from Japan, take 6 weeks and cost the soul of your firstborn son, plus tax.

Ah, yeah I was just searching for parts for my version :p

One thing regarding the VAT and Tax though - It might slip through if the Japanese site is feeling helpful! I ordered a chrome handbrake knob and clear rear fog light from Sakura Car and I've been waiting to get the usual note from the Post Office saying I have to go pay the tax (stupidly inefficient).
Instead I just got the package delivered this morning, wondered how come I didn't have to pay anything until I noticed the value on the Japanese delivery note said "800JPY". That's £5.50, the order was actually about £70 and £10 shipping. :D Thank you Sakura car! sakura-car on eBay

The one I bought from England has been sent. I should have it in less than a week. I will let you all know when it arrives whether it meets my expectations.

@ Vin Petrol We are lucky here in Australia; There is no GST (VAT) on overseas internet purchases under $1000.

Well the price for the double core Radiator here and to pay to do the modification is less than the price for a Radiator on buyee with import and shipping cost.

Not for the Honda one you linked though surely? If you can get one that fits in the space and someone to fit it for cheaper that's a no-brainer, go for it mate, but I'd make sure your mechanic has a good look how much space there is before getting your new one.

Oops. As far as things going wrong, this one couldn't have gone much wronger. Package arrived by DHL, and I went and picked it up, but when I got home and opened it, it was far too big to fit a Copen, and its bits were all in the wrong places, anyway. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do. Apart from anything else, the radiator actually came from Lithuania, not UK. Ebay listing says seller is in London. Now I'm wondering if they send you the same radiator no matter what car you specify. And I can only try and guess what country it was actually made in. So, I'll let you know what happens.

    Dang it :(
Report to the seller and demand a refund and be firm about it. These people do not deserve to be on ebay...

The seller has replied, and is just as puzzled as I am. The ebay page definitely shows that 61284 radiator is for Copen. He asked me to confirm that the box has 61284 written on it, which it has. I have told him so. I think he means to put it right, just not sure how, yet. I'm certainly not going to pay to send it back. Meanwhile, I hope my existing radiator holds up until this is sorted out.

Yeah, I think that's not actually the part number, or it's not the entire part number. Looking at that page, there's a line that says:-

    This item fits 1 version(s) of the Daihatsu Copen 2003 L880_, L881_ [2003-2012] Convertible 0.7:
Please check if your vehicle is in the list and if there is no restriction for your vehicle in the notes field

if you click on 'show all compatible vehicles' it lists 45 pages of cars that starts off with a 1.6 Alfa Romeo and a 3.2l VR6 Audi TT, both apparently compatible with that radiator if you go just by the number, but on the left side of the table is a column called Notes - Important part details.

Each vehicle has a different designation in that notes column.

Notes Make Model Year Variant Bodystyle Type Engine
    Important part details
    955 A4.000 Alfa Romeo Mito 2008 955 [2008-2016] Hatchback 1.6 JTDM 1598ccm 115HP 85KW (Diesel)
    BHE Audi TT Roadster 2003 8N9 [1999-2006] Convertible 3.2 VR6 quattro 3189ccm 250HP 184KW (Petrol)
    LT8 Cadillac Deville 1982 -- [1974-2005] Saloon 4.1 4087ccm 137HP 101KW (Petrol)
    HFX (TU1JP) Citroën C2 2003 JM_ [2003-2016] Hatchback 1.1 1124ccm 60HP 44KW (Petrol)
    KFV (TU3JP) Citroën C2 2003 JM_ [2003-2016] Hatchback 1.4 1360ccm 73HP 54KW (Petrol)

    JB Daihatsu Copen 2003 L880_, L881_ [2003-2012] Convertible 0.7 659ccm 68HP 50KW (Petrol)

The Copen has the letters JB in the Notes column, I think that actually identifies the specific part and the 61284 is a type of radiator.

JB is probably for the JB-DET engine, so on the L881k with a K3-VE engine it does not fit (according to the seller, it probably does not fit on both :D). Given that freddy is in AUS, he probably has a JB-DET copen :D

For example: The BHE on the Audi TT is the engine code for the 3.2 Liter

    @Salieri Yes, that's right.

I actually found 2 other radiators from same seller that also claimed to fit the Copen. Both wrong. Seller now tells me he can't supply a radiator for my car. He is now trying to arrange for courier to return it.

I have registered with Buyee in attempt to purchase the all-aluminium one. The auction is blocked for me for some reason, but I applied to unblock it and they will let me know by tomorrow. If this goes through, I am still better off than buying it locally, if I could find one, that is. Stay tuned. Also, this appears to be a fine-looking product, much better than the original plastic/aluminium one.

Locally, I can get radiator for a Sirion, which might come close to fitting, but it is only 12mm thick. Too thin, I think.

Now I'm a little bit scared, because the English translation of part of the Japanese description says this:
"You need shroud processing because the core than genuine is thick When fitting. "
What exactly does that mean? It looks like they're saying you have to chop the mountings to make it fit. Why does life have to be so hard?

Have you tried taking the car to a radiator specialist?
There's not much they can't fix or recore to suit what you need. Often cheaper than you'd think.
I'd rather have a quality repair then an unknown part made to a price.

After a bit of searching and translating, shroud seems to be a translation of 'covering', so they're saying you may need to alter the radiator cover I think..

    copen replace rad.jpg

    rad.jpg

    cop rad.jpg standard

    cop new rad.jpg

    cop rad stood.jpg

It looks from the pictures that the pipes and mountings are in the same place as the standard radiator and the standard has quite a wide lip around the top and bottom of the core, whereas the replacement one's casing sits flush with the thicker core, so the actual radiator might not be much bigger. Overall height 489 mm Overall width Approximately 344 mm it says, I can't seem to find the dimensions of the standard radiator though to compare.

This video moves a little fast but you can see the standard one pretty well by pausing it

Yes, that's what's on its way, just like the pictures. It looks pretty solidly made to me. I can't really tell what's in store for me until I try fitting it. You can be sure I will report back here when it arrives. Meanwhile, I have my work cut out for me; an elderly lady friend asked me to find a car for her, so yesterday I bought a 2000 Sirion for $500. It's actually quite good for the price, even though it's been sideswiped on the driver's side, but the damage is only cosmetic, and the only other major thing is that the front passenger window won't go up; I've got a switch panel coming from ebay. I must be some kind of masochist.
