Anyone know how to clear the engine warning light? There is no problem, I just started the car and had forgotten to reconnect the oxygen sensor. Reconnected the light is still on.
I've got an OBD2 diagnostic scanner which you plug into the cars OBD socket. It tells you why the engine light is on and then clears the light after you have read the fault codes. They are cheap to buy on eBay, I've had mine a few years now and used it on about four cars. If you decide to buy one let me know and I'll make sure that the the one I have works on my car. That way if you buy one you know that it will work with a Copen. Mine covers most makes of car but not all. In actuall fact now that you've connected the sensor the light should go out in three or four stops and starts of the engine. The fault code will still be stored though. This is my code reader. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/U480-Univ...iagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3ccccc6b3d
Phew, panic over. Yes it has cleared itself now. When I got to work I started the car three times but it was still there. On my mother's car I think I found out after 6 starts it cleared (forgot reason for the light now). When I started the car on my way home it had cleared.
My son owned a fiat stilo that was running poorly and the MIL light was on. I bought the code reader which told me that no3 cylinder had a missfire which was caused by a faulty coil on that spark plug. It's worth having the scanner if you like to do work on your own cars. A garage would charge a canny bit just to connect your car to their machine and tell you what the fault is. That's before their charge to then fix the problem.
I know, thats what I was worried about. Hence the frantic message while I was at work! The one you showed me, is that the one you got? have you tried it on the copen?
I haven't tried it on the Copen and the scanner in the link is the one I got. The price has come down since I bought mine, I paid more about three or four years ago. I'll try it on my car and let you know if it works ok. Here's a link to where it is... https://www.copenworld.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=776
I couldn't find the OBD socket. I expected it to be in the internal fuse box (where it is on a lot of cars) it's the only panel under the steering wheel. Just fuses in there oddly enough. If anybody knows the exact location of the socket could they let me know please? I'm sure the socket is meant to be easily accessible so I wouldn't expect to start removing sections of the dash to access it.
I just went out to look and took a photo but was very dark , not phone flash This is right under the steering wheel casing with the panel below removed. You can see the socket. Its in line with the clutch pedal as you sit in the car. You may be able to access without removing the large plastic cover/panel.
The OBD socket is attached to a metal bracket which is attached to the heater housing just under that lower steering wheel casing. Anyway I plugged my reader into the socket, it scanned and reported no fault codes which is what I expected. So the code reader I linked to works fine with the Copen. Here's a video of somebody using it....... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OpBB9STY-xE
U480 OBD2 and still no luck Hi, I ordered the U480 OBD2 in the link, found the socket (will see the chiroprator on Monday), but the scanner does not switch on. Am I missing something? Please help!:-((
Sorry I'm a bit late replying but I missed this post. When you plug the scanner in it should immediately light up the display. You then turn on the ignition and start the scan. If the scanner doesn't light up when you plug it in there must be a fault wth your scanner. Unless your obd socket is faulty which doesn't seem likely. Try the scanner on a different car, see if that works.
