Here are list of Daihatsu part numbers for service items: Sump plug washer is: 90044-30281-000 For information the size of the washer is: ID = 12.2 OD = 19 THK = 2.3 (mm) Oil quantities required for or a 659 turbo engine: If your just changing the oil you need 2.5l. If your changing the filter too you need 2.7l. 5W-30 Oil filter = 15601-97201-000 Air filter = 17801-97206-000 Spark Plugs NGK part number: IRF6J11 To get the oil filter off you might want to buy this tool: Daihatsu part number 09228-87201-000 - Wrench Oil Filter.
I'm sure it's possible without the tool. Not very easy though. The Daihatsu tool makes life a bit easier. You can buy other similar tools. However there are size variations with different brands of oil filters. It's difficult to recommend another tool as it may not fit the filter you have bought. Some filters are taller & won't fit through the gap in the engine mount.
These are examples of other tool options (suitability dependant on which filter you have): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-4232-Filter-Wrench-Flutes/dp/B0012M9K2E/ref=pd_rhf_shvl_1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flute-Filte..._2?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1310410310&sr=8-2 A FACOM D159 oil filter wrench: http://www.ultimategarage.com/shop/part.php?manufacturers_id=15&products_id=5517

Hi Adam I have had great difficulty finding and trying to purchase the correct oil filter and sump washer on-line. It is driving me mad! If I understand everything correctly the oil filter dimensions are approximately: 659cc = Daihatsu part number: 15601-97201-000 Size: (H)50mm x (W)68mm (3/4-16 UNF-2Bmm) (JB-DET engine) More than ten available on eBay @ £16.42 delivered (Mahle OC487) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Filte...arParts_SM&hash=item256f74ee35#ht_2703wt_1399 1300cc = Daihatsu part number: 15601-87107-000 Size: (H)65mm x (W)68mm (3/4-16 UNF-2Bmm) (K3-VE engine) More than ten available on eBay @ £8.95 delivered (Mahle OC215) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Filte...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4844f44a91 Five available on eBay @ £15.47 delivered (Daihatsu original) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Filte...CarParts_SM&hash=item2c6ffe8e63#ht_228wt_1399 So the only real difference (that causes considerable confusion) seems to be the height? The sump washer (sump plug washer) (oil drain seal) for both is: Daihatsu part number: 90044-30281-000 http://www.kiessetz-und-schmidt.de/...=4051&d=d_90044_30281_000_Oil_drain_seal.php& The only description I can find for these is here (for Daihatsu and Toyota) is from an OEM supplier called Wurth: http://eshop.wuerth.de/Sealing-wash...;sid=g25ueWlHr2dieTjLUgNwpGZNStWXSKD8el-nwpB2 These are specified as: (Internal diameter)12mm x (Outer diameter)24mm x (Thickness)2mm Would this be okay as I think it is quoted on this forum as: 12.2mm x 19mm x 2.3mm? With regard to the oil filter wrench/removal tool, most places state that Daihatsu requires a 65/67mm x 14 flute version but this may vary for some filter makes which may require a 68mm x 14 flute version? 65/67mm x 14 flute more than ten available on eBay @ £5.47 delivered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laser-Cup...Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item3f17ad0e58 68mm x 14 flute more than ten available on eBay @ £6.99 delivered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OIL-FILTE...88?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5d30f4c1c8 Or get a 16 piece set more than ten available on eBay @ £23.00 delivered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-Piece-...t=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item20c611a81f Any help/clarification would be appreciated Many thanks KS
The washer information I posted was straight out of the Copen spares catalogue. The only way to be sure is to buy all genuine parts & tools. Otherwise your taking pot luck as to whether your filter will fit the removal tool & fit through the gap in the engine mount. My Daihatsu oil filter is @47mm high.
It's the variation in width across the flats that gives the grief. Making sure you buy the right tool for the brand of filter you buy.
Hi All I finally got round to the oil and filter change on our Copen turbo. The parts situation gave me many hours of grief trying to make sure I purchased the right ones, so now that I have seen and measured everything first hand, I thought I would share my findings with you all. I purchased a Daihatsu original oil filter on eBay and then got a new sump plug and washer from an authorised Daihatsu garage (note the cost). Type: L880 (JB-DET) – 659cc 16V Turbo (67hp – 50kW 68PS) Oil filter (Element Oil Filter) (Element S/A, Oil) Daihatsu part number: 15601-97201 Equivalent eBay Mahle: OC487 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Filte...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item256f74ee35 Dimensions: 50 x 68mm (height x width) (3/4-16 UNF-2Bmm) JB-DET engine Sump Plug/Oil Drain Seal/Plug, W/Head (Plug, Straight Screw) Daihatsu Part Number: 90043-41087 Cost: £3.66 plus VAT (£4.39) Dimensions: M12 x 1.25 x 22mm (size x thread pitch x thread length) Spanner size: A/F 14mm Total length: 31mm – Head surface: 22mm Oil Drain Seal/Ring/Sump Washer (Gasket) (metal/aluminium) Daihatsu Part Number: 90044-30281 Cost: £3.92 plus VAT (£4.70) Dimensions: 12.2 x 19 x 2.3mm (internal x outer x thickness as parts manual) Dimensions: 12.2 x 18 x 1.5mm (actual measurements from part) Please note that the sump washer supplied was a completely different size to the one quoted in the parts manual. As these two parts may be difficult to source for some people (and for me), I purchased a really nice blue magnetic version suitable for the Copen Turbo on eBay (you can then get everything from eBay). Have a look at this item as it looks a really good alternative. eBay Magnetic Sump Plug and Washer (blue) Dimensions: M12 x 1.25 Cost: £5.35 inclusive of VAT and delivery http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/APS-Unive...es-/400504407524?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160 Oil filter wrench/removal tool (Wrench, Oil Filter) Daihatsu part number 09228-87201 68mm x 14 flute Equivalent eBay Wrench Set (68mm x 14 flutes) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-Piece-...EW-/140761999391?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:GB:3160 Finally, I used Castrol Magnatec fully synthetic 5W-30 A1 engine oil at a cost of £25.88 inclusive of VAT and delivery via eBay. I have attached a few images of most of the items KS
Just thought of one more thing.... Does anyone know why the mark position (arrow) on the oil filter needs to be pointing upwards? Please see the attached PDF (page B5-5) to see what I mean Many thanks KS
Some nice work there KS. I don't think the marker needs to be pointing up. It's just there so you know that you have tightened it up by one full turn.
Spoke to the service adviser at sg petch today to check if they can supply me with the sump plug, sump plug washer and the wrench oil filter for my turbo. 90044-30281-000 sump plug washer 90043-41087 sump plug 09228-87201-000 wrench oil filter They don't currently show on thieir site but he said he will add them and to check the site in a hour. This is good news as it means all the parts can be added at the same time as the oil filter. I'm also ordering 15601-97201 oil filter And a set of new mats, I only need to pay the one postage cost for the mats so may order a few oil filters and washers/plugs to keep me going.
Also found a seller on eBay called "impartsb46" He sells genuine daihatsu parts and the prices below are delivered prices. Oil filter 15601-97201. £14.16 Sump plug washer 90044-30281 £3.11 Sump plug. 90043-41087. £3.05 He also sells genuine centre caps for £8 delivered I've ordered 4 caps and 5 of each of the above
This is the most used oil filter tool I've got. Hardly used anything else since I bought one of these. http://toolstoday.co.uk/product/51390/teng-tools-oil-filter-removal-pliers-409?cat=3048
Are you guys doing your own servicing to need to buy these items? Will a normal reputable garage be able to do the servicing for me without too much trouble in getting parts?
Any garage can service your Copen. Service parts are readily available, however you might not get genuine Daihatsu parts. If you never going to tackle the oil filter yourself it's not a problem. For your MOT though plan to book it in as early as possible, just in case you need uncommon parts that need to be ordered from Japan. The eBay seller impartsb46 is in fact Daihatsu Distribution Ltd.
So you can pretty much order any part off him? Not just what he lists on eBay? I knew he was Daihatsu Distribution but just assumed he was selling off what he had left and wasn't still an active importer. Bought an expensive optional extra off him last week. I put in a cheeky offer and eventually we agreed on a price which he said was below cost price. Made me feel like I had a real bargain. Can't tell you what it is though till after my Mrs birthday on Wednesday
I've bought the service items, and the front, rear and side skirts which arrived today and I'm really impressed with the service from him via eBay. He has also quoted me on other bits which are a fair bit cheaper too. I'm planning to service mine with the help of a friend so I know what I supply is being used.
