    Hi guys

Just a quick question to see if anyone has changed a water pump on a 659cc copen?

Ive had a look when changing belts but its quite a tight space and dont want to have to lower/raise the engine or anything like that. Ill be giving it a go next weekend but just thought if anyone has changed one before obviously you'll be able to point me in the right direction.

I think mine is on its way out, its the water pump or power steering maybe, im hearing a grinding type noise when I rev (idle or moving) and sounds the same regardless of clutch being pressed in or not and it has only started making this noise since I changed the belts. Fan also seems to kick in more recently

I'd say you'll have to pull or drop the engine out. From memory, dropping the engine out requires you to remove the tranny.

hmm that will be awkward for me, I don't have the tools/equipment to be pulling the engine out really. I did notice a hole through the wheel arch (behind the plastic wheel arch liner) which looked to be on the same centre line as the waterpump pulley so I was just wondering whether it could be undone with an extension bar using that hole?

Or is it simply impossible to actually pull the pump away from the engine block in that area?

Hmm, after looking at the manual (Chasis / B06), it looks like you remove the air box after draining the coolant.

The manual also states after removing the pump, you MUST replace it's gasket.

Ill have a look at the manual too, I think the one that viamoto sells comes with the gasket but I will confirm that before I order it

I had a look today, its the main crank pulley that I can see through wheel arch. Water pump looks really awkward, if i could raise the engine slightly I reckon it would give me enough room to remove it.

I tried using a long screwdriver to listen to parts, alternator, power steering sounded the same as each other and the air con did too but slightly quieter, I couldnt find a safe part to place the screw driver on the water pump so I couldnt listen.

I am not even sure what it is because the noise im hearing doesnt happen when the car is idling, its when the car is revved up to 2.5k rpm that it is loudest and when im out actually driving I cant hear it, I am baffled.
