Hello ,the last two mounths i had in my Copen 1.3 an engine light on,with OBD code reader i saw the p1346 code which means VVTI issue.I done reset, light became off but with the first ignition on the engine light switched ON.So begun to remove all sensors such as Oil valve sensor, camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor, everything was OK (i test the oil sensor with 12v DC to see the movement, and with a multimeter i check the resistance of the two sensors which must be between 2100-2300 ohms). When i read the manual i saw that in VVTI oil circuit was an oil filter (i searched in Toyota SZ engine manuals) but i couldnt find in my engine where it was. Finally i found it,was near oil valve sensor,is a blind allen bolt which you have to take off .Inside you will find a cartidge small filter (see photos). The filter in my engine was so dirty that prevent the flow of oil.The previus owner used unproperly oil and for many kms, that was the reason for all problems. The right oil is 5-30sae for 5000km. I cleaned the filter with a carb cleaner ,right next with water soap and air pressure, install again back i turn on the engine and until now everything is OK. Dont worry about oil mess when remove the oil filter,no one drop felt down. The easy way to remove the bolt is to unscrew the two 12mm bolts which keep the hydraulic tube and the 10mm knock sensor bolt from engine mount. I hope to help .
