Does anyone happen to know, ideally from a data sheet: 1) At what RPM does the turbo start spooling up? 2) What is the max effective RPM for the turbo - i.e. at what RPM is the turbo giving the most power? From my own experience of Copen ownership, it seems like 2000 is the start of the turbo spooling up. Likewise, it looks like the max effective RPM is about 4000 RPM.
The factory Turbo is 86.3ps/6100rpm of boost with 12.5kg-m/3300rpm of Torque I changed it to an other one with 120.0ps/7300rpm of Boost with 13.7kgf・m/4900rpm
I dunno, I don't feel comfortable going above 4k RPM as my engine sounds like it's screaming. In 5th gear, on the motorway, that's equivalent to 100KPH / 70MPH and appears to give the best MPG to speed ratio.
From what I've worked out the factory ECU starts retarding the timing about 4500 to keep the motor under the Kei power limit that's why it doesn't like higher revs. It feels like it hits a wall. That said even with the Unichip fixing that the turbo does start to run out of breath around 6000. I tend to cruise around 100k as well it's more comfortable holding that speed. At 110 it seems to keep wanting to accelerate meaning I'm constantly adjusting the throttle which is tiresome .
you right jez77 around 6000 the ECU retard breath , so you can get only 0,5 bar with the factory loader..
That engine scream is why I sometimes just leave the stereo off when the roof's down. For cruising yes, I sit around 3-4k (mine is just over 3k at 70, but I do have slightly bigger tyres, induction kit and exhaust so changed gear ratio a little and very mildly tuned.
