I'd like to fit some new speakers. I've searched all over the place & can't fi d a definative answer to what size I need to be. It's either 16 or 16.5cm's. Can anyone help?
I've fitted 17cm 3 way Sony. Yes, they are really a little too big, but using SoundX strips around the existing hole to seal it. The ideal was copied from smx. See this thread for more info. Then I installed high level tweeters on the door (£10 from Maplin!), and more recently the 8" sub in the back wall. So thats 9 cones in total Hope this help. Rex.
Not really no. However I bought some 16.5cm which were multi-fitment, so they had lots of hole options. The hole size aperture in the door was too small for the speaker to fit flush though. I had to make spacers to lift the speaker about 10mm. I also had to drill an extra hole in the speaker. Even with all the multi-fit hole options I couldn't get three to line up with the existing holes. Plus I used longer mounting screws. So I would say, to not need a spacer go for 16mm speakers with some sort of multi-fitment, but be prepared to drill holes.
with my copen, i manage to install a 6 1/2 inch in the door with spacer. just be carefully about the deep of the speaker.
speaker size The speakers are 16cm and i couldnt find one in London. I bought mine in Japan last week. They just fit with larger washers.
