    Greetings,

Noticing the bonnet is suffering from a few stone chips and was thinking of getting it re sprayed. Had a quote for £350 and one for £710 !

Was just wondering what other options are available and in particular has anyone tried 'just' stripping the paint back and then polishing the aluminium itself.

Possible or just a mad idea, what do you think?

Have you ever heard of aluminum corrosion? Very nasty. I would not do it.

You could try spray film (Foliatec), it will be 30-40ish quid and you can remove it any time.
Might even make some carbon effect with a fly screen. Paint it black, lay the fly screen on the bonnet and spray over it with silver :D

if you did go back to bare metal you'd need to give it a clear coat lacquer to stop the corrosion Salieri mentioned. Another option is to keep current colour and get a company like chipsaway to sort the chips out - probably a lot cheaper than a respray.

Thanks for all the notes...I did spend a pleasant bank holiday with a touch up paint filling in all the gaps.

Not quite as good as new so think I'll my eye out for a second hand bonnet, sounds the best longer term route.
