Just bought a Copen a few weeks back.Very happy with the purchase but I've noticed the roof is quite loud whilst going up or down. Is this common? Is it just a noisy mechanism anyway? Thanks David
It's an electric powered hydraulic motor that powers the mechanism. The motor noise is normal. I like the sound.
Hi Adam, Thanks. I've had a couple of motorised roofs, Honda Del Sol and Megane Coupe convertible (my mothers), I just thot the Copen was a bit louder. Would lubrication maybe help as trustafox suggests? I understand tho that it may just be the normal volume from the motor.i suppose the only way to find out is to compare with another.easier said than done, lol. David
It's good to lubricate the hinges every year as part of the service. I think it's the motor noise you are hearing.
Cheers Adam, I'll give a wee lube this weekend. New issue. When my wife closed the roof today the warning light stayed on and an alarm was sounding in the car. We've now noticed that the boot isn't closing properly on the edge nearest the rear window.i had top push on the corners to lock the boot down but the warning light stays on and alarm sounds when driving. It's still under warranty but any ideas? David
Hmmmm, okay for the alarm noise. Check that both roof latches are closed properly. I thought the alarm only sounded when the roof latches are open whilst moving. Is there anything in the boot that may have we stoped the boot lid closing? Inside the centre console is the boot release button. This is also the reset for the roof mechanism. On the under side of the boot lid, one on each side of the hinge mechanism is a blue loop attached to a cord. These are the emergency pull cords to manually operate the boot. Check these have not become unlatched. Look through the owners manual, it shows how to manually open the boot & shows pictures of these pull cords.
Cheers Adam, Nothing in the boot to interfere with the closing. I was out trying it again and now the boot doesn't close at all.it sounds like the main boot catch isn't grabbing the boot lid.when I press the button in the centre console to release the boot lid, when I lift up the lid I hear the main catch working away for a second. Also when operating the roof, either opening or closing, the beep to tell you the action has finished isn't sounding. I'm taking it back to the dealer on Saturday but it's bugging me coz it was fine yesterday.
Cheers Adam, Nothing in the boot to interfere with closing the lid. The boot is now not closing fully at all. On releasing it by pressing the button in the centre console, when I lift e boot up I heard the main locking mechanism of the boot working away for a second.it appears the main lock isn't working which I guess when it works it pull the whole lid into place. On operating the roof, either opening or closing, the beep doesn't sound to tell me the action has been completed. It's going back to the dealer Saturday but it's just bugging me as it was working fine yesterday.
Sounds like a plan. Like you say, maybe the lock in the boot isn't working correctly. Which results in the final closing stage of the boot closing failing. Perhaps the alarm is telling you the boot isn't locked.
Hi I have been having similar problems for some time now. Since I got our Copen, when the roof is opened and nearing the end of the operation, the boot does not close down correctly on the passenger side corner near the roof edge. I then have to keep opening and closing the roof slightly until eventually it locks down tight and the operation completes successfully. This problem has got worse as recently the red roof warning light has been intermittently coming on (constantly NOT flashing) which then disables the roof operation completely. I cannot establish why or how it goes off again as it seems to have a mind of its own, there is no pattern to the problem and I can never really tell what is going to happen! However, the boot operation (not roof) always works perfectly (with the internal switch and key fob) and opens and closes correctly every single time. I have removed/cleaned/tested the ‘Luggage Partition Switch’, measured/compared both the left and right ‘Luggage Door Closer Switches’ (the bottom part of the right switch was broken when I purchased the car and as I had recently replaced this I suspected this might be a problem) and checked the ‘Roof Lock’ operation on both left and right hand sides (you can hear the switches click and the red light comes on when they are opened and goes off when they are closed) and removed the roof ECU and checked for corrosion. I have NOT yet checked the ‘Parking Brake Switch’ which is next on my list when I can find out how to do it but in all honesty, there are so many switches and sensors on the system I don’t hold out much hope of being able to repair the fault myself and especially as the red light problem is so intermittent. I purchased a full set of service manuals from eBay, but I don’t find them a great deal of help as they are very badly written/translated and I think would normally only be used in conjunction with physical training and test equipment. My personal feeling is that the roof needs to be professionally adjusted from scratch so I am trying to find a local dealer who can help. KS
dwayner I just started to have water coming into the boot for the first time ever. and it was the boot light as so many people have said on here. I had it fixed straight away at the toyota dealer- it was easy to do apparently. But i didnt initially find it, until the whole electric motor for the roof was under water!! so the warning light for the roof, stayed on the whole time - i took out the water, and let it all dry out on a warmer day, and then the light now goes off, and the roof works, so sounds like an easy situation to fix.
