    Hey Copen crowd.

I'm a new owner of a Copen - a gift for myself in the new year. :) And oh my am I liking it! It makes my "practical" suzuki feel like a floppy rag in comparison.

I'll be posting pics soon, and in the meantime I'm really keen to dig through this forum and start doing some maintenance. I already tightened the roof latches to remove rattling noises and next I'll take care of the tyres. Does anyone here use alternative sizes other than the stock 165/50-r15? And which are the brands with best traction? I'm not bothered about wear since the tarmac here in Malta is the least abrasive and most slippery compared to other places I've driven.

Hi and welcome :D Take good care of the car, if you have any questions, I'm glad to answer them

I have 165/60 R14 on 5x14 aluminium wheels for winter.
I can recommend Bridgestone, Goodyear, Michellin, Continental (Hankook if you do not want to spend much money). I do not recommend chinese tyres. They might be OK, but as tyres are the only thing connecting you to the road, its no use being cheap there

Thanks for the welcome, I'll definitely be taking care of it. :)

My plan was to keep the stock 15" wheels since I don't have the budget for a new set right now. Vredestein seem to make the Sportrac 5 in 175/50 R15 which should fit and it gets good reviews on wet/dry grip so I might try it out. Does that sound sensible?

Nope, they will most likely scrape when cornering because the diameter is too big :D
But theoretically yes, you could put 175/50 on the car.

I did not say anything about tyre width, i was talking about the diameter of the wheel /tyre height. But if you can run 195/45, which is 87,75mm, you will be able to do go for 175/50 also, which is 87,5mm

    Thanks for the link anyway

    Hi all
Just bought my second (second-hand) Copen. Loved the first one that much! New one has after market seat covers and the seat belt guides that the first one had are absent. Now I not sure if the seat belt guides on the first car were added after market, or if the upholsterer never replaced the existing ones when the did the new trim on the second car. Any advice?

The Copen originally comes with plastic seat belt guides that are mounted to the seat with 2 screws

The original ones are fairly useless so you're not missing much, I keep my seat belts out of it because it actually retracts properly instead of getting stuck :p There's some aftermarket ones available, the best-looking in my opinion are the Kumoi ones from Japan, there's also 2 Take-Off versions. The only one easily available in Europe unfortunately is the crudest looking TakeOff version pictured 3rd, from K&S in Germany. There are specialist sites for purchasing from Japan but it's a bit of a pain so I haven't looked into it much yet, a few people on the site have experience getting stuff out of Japan that can probably advise.

These are listed as 13,500 Yen

This is apparently on sale but I can't find a price, it's also available from Belt Guides

I was pretty sure that 5mm increase in profile height would be fine, and knowing your size works is quite reassuring. Also thanks for the links to that calculator, I hadn't seen that particular one yet and it's pretty good. I also saw the PDF from micro-roadster.de so I'll do my research.
    Cheers!
