I don't see many Copens with different alloy wheels. My alloys are looking worse for wear and have been looking on the "Wheelbase" website. Are there any problems that I need to know about with changing to other alloy wheels?
Hi, I'd like to know what exact size Daihatsu agree for Copen in 14" (alloys and tires) ? Many thanks !
They don't! because they only fitted 15 inch wheels. Look in the manual but I bet it only mentions 15 inch. Why do you want 14s? is it to have higher profile tyres? Do that if you want to fell like driving a water bed or you live down a long farm track. If you keep a similar profile on 14s then it will probably look silly in that they look too small for the arches.
A lot of people have put alternative alloys on their Copen. Just look at any photo of Copens in Japan.
Hi sebcal, these 14" sizes work (reported from german Copen owners): Rim / Offset / Tyre 5x14 / 40 / 165x60 5,5x14 / 35 / 165x60 6x14 / 35 / 165x60 6x14 / 37 / 195x45 6x14 / 37 / 165x60 6x14 / 38 / 165x60 Andreas
Does anyone know if 16"s or 17"swill fit on the 0.7 Copen? And if so,what offset would they need to be? Ta Lou X
Thanks scooty ! Trustafox, if i think about 14" wheels, it would be for higher profil tyres to get a little more comfort. I don't think this would make a radical difference in comportement of the car... The problem is 14" tyres are more expansive than 15" !
16s will. I can't recall anyone with 17s, I'd say yes but you would need tyre profiles even less than standard so it will be a rock hard ride. eg 195 40 17 and thats over 7% oversized which could be a bit too much. rim diameter doesn't affect offset. It would depend on rim width. I'd guess you'd end up with wider rims if you got larger ones. So the offset would need to reduce a bit to reduce the amount of width going into the arch but instead pushing it outside the arch. Then too much runs risk of breaking the law, unless you roll your arches or fit some flared arches. Like on minis. if you kept a similar offset a wider rim would then start to risk rubbing inside the inside the arch or maybe even a suspension part, especially when turning the fronts. You would get a reduced turning circle.
I am on 13" steelies with 165/65 tires. It is a comfortable ride but performance probably suffers a little. This is what the rear wheel looks like with the arches. I might try 185 tires in my next change.
Hi Lou, and here's the list for 16" and 17" rims with links to the posts/threads at forum.micro-roadster.de (one needs to register to see embedded pics): Rim / Offset / Tyre / Comment / Link 6x16 / 40 / 195x40 / Link 6x16 / 43 / 195x40 / (2) / Link1 / Link2 6,5x16 / 35 / 195x40 / Link 6,5x16 / 40 / 165x40 / Link1 / Link2 7x16 / 37 / 195x40 / (1) / Link 7x16 / 38 / 195x40 / (2) and changes to inner wheelhousing / Link1 / Link2 5,5x17 / 42 / 165x40 / Link1 / Link2 7x17 / 38 / 185x35 / (1) / (2) / Link (1) Needs Steering delimiters (2) Needs fender extension / crimping Andreas
Very interesting ! To be complete, for someone who would change originals alloys (4,5x15 offset 45 ...if i'm right...) while keeping original size of tire : 165/50 R15 73V, what alloy dimensions are OK : ?x15 offset :?
Hi sebcal, attached please find the complete list for a lot of tyre and rim combinations (at least the legal ones in Germany). It is in german, but I am sure you will make sense of it. The latest version always can be found in the knowledge base of forum.micro-roadste.de (you have to register to be able to accessi it). Andreas, I know about the Nankang NS2 185's and they are frequently listed on your sheet and I know you have them, but Nankang also do an NS20. Do you know of anyone who has tried that tyre and any noticeable difference from the NS2?
Hi ! I can't open the attached list... and i prefer not to registre on the micro-roadster forum. It would be only to get the liste and would make a ghost profil... Would somebody make a capture of the list for we can see it directly on this thread ? I only want to know what alloy dimensions are OK while keeping original size of tire : 165/50 R15 73V, : ?x15 offset :?
Well you can use 5J rims with them. You could use 5.5J also but that is only the larger end. 6J rims would be almost the same width as the tyre. I know a lot of dudes like rims a lot wider than the tyre, not for me.
Or you could take them to a local refurb/powder coating specialist and have them cleaned and tarted to a colour of your choice....
Mmmh, no problems here to download and open the ZIP file from the post above (click me). Can you please detail the problem you are experiencing? Andreas
Hi Andreas, I put these wheels 5,5x14 / 35 / 165x60 . Result : better handling (on country road), better comfort and better look. Jérôme
