So I had this 54 plate Copen given to me by a work colleague who just wanted it off his driveway, they bought it new back in 04, done 60k, service history up to 35k. MOT ran out in 2019, last advisories were rust, corroded exhaust, corroded brake lines & small chip in the windscreen. All 4 wheels were flat (aluminium has gone porous apparently, no reason to disbelieve it), exhaust was rotten all the way along it, no silencers, drivers rear arch/quarter showing extensive rust/rot. Starts & runs great, roof works, windows work etc.
Got under it today, stripped the exhaust off & took some time to evaluate all the bodywork & plan best course of action. Picked some wheels up earlier in the week as I knew I needed some.... They stick out a little, but i have a plan.... Drivers rear arch is rotten on the outer skin of bodywork, the inner layer is structurally sound All underneath was coated in a thick layer of mud & dirt, hasnt been cleaned in a while. A previous repair on the sill was done when the arches were dirty as there was silver paint on top of the dirt!
Go for it! You've obviously got the confidence to tackle this and it's great to see another Copen be revived when it was so obviously close to being left to die.
Little bit of progress, cleaned underneath, stripped quite a lot off the car. The pics speak for themselves though! Sourced an exhaust system too, VHT painted it to protect it from the elements. Ground out a lot of rust, more to come
That's a nice bit of progress there, looking great! Can't wait to see more progress on this. Fair play
