hello guys i was outside earlier today making the copen look nice and id thought id have a look under the car and see if its all ok underneath and i noticed that the one of the tips on the end where its welded had abit of bodgey welding going on where someone had ago of trying to fix the right tip and ive noticed that its rotten and is about to snap off clean so im wondering if you guys know if i can get a complete stainless exhaust ?... and if i dont get the stainless ive just seen a new OE quality one for £145 complete and the rear section which is all i really need is just £45

Do a google search for your local area for stainless exhaust. cat back will be around £400
if thats too much, get the £45 rear section if you can fit it yourself.

my new exhaust system turned up today in the post its the complete kit from exhaust manifold right back and it looks nice just need to get it on the copen now and another thing... i was going to leave the car alone until the exhaust was on but today i needed to go somewhere and when i got there my left exhaust chrome end and gone and i heard a metal pinging sound... but i dunno where that is and then on the way home just up the road from my house in the grass verge my right one came off :D:eek: .. i remember hearing the sound and this time i look straight into my rear mirror and saw the chrome end barrel roll in the road whilst doing 50mph and a focus st behind me had to dodge it and then he flashed me and when i got onto a two land road i rolled the window down coz i knew he'd say something and he just said about my exhaust has come off and i explained that i knew it was going to happen and have a new one at home then he said just thought id let you know heh  ... lucky that i check my underneath otherwise i wouldnt have been explecting that or had bought a new exhaust when i did... the chrome tip on right was rotten but the left looked fine so i was about  when i saw the left one was gone and i only had the right and now i have none just two big old holes now until the new ones on ;)

How do they just fall off? is it rust or something? after reading about this, i checked mine, and although it was dirty, i cleaned it up, and it looks like new - no rust or anything - or is it something else that makes them fall off?

i think mine was the one from new and my copen is now 9 years old so this was bound to happen... basically what happens is the two chrome tip ends are welded to the exhaust and over time they rust and eventually fall off... i remember checking mine monday and on the welds it was rotten and i could have just snap it off with my hand so what would have happened is as im driving along the bumps in the road would have just finished it off and caused the rotten end bit to just simply fall clean off... just check to make sure the welds are still solid on the chrome ends and if they are not then expect this to happen  then get a new one like i did

just had a go at getting my old exhaust off the copen but couldnt get it to budge coz of those seized rusty bolts all i managed to do was make the damn thing just wobble all over the place trying to undo the nuts so i went to a local bosch garage and they said they'd fit it for £22 the complete exhaust system i have new from exhaust manifold right back and that was £145 so all in around £160 :D

is that from the cat back? the cat is in between the manifold and exhaust. I assume you still got a cat fitted.

no its better then that i have the whole lot changed for new from the exhaust manifold... it bends up to the engine new from there all the way back... its a stock exhaust system just like the one from new with the cats in the same place... it only comes as two pieces the whole system and its bolts onto the exhaust manifold and goes all the way to the back section then two bolts there for the twin tailpipes... im really happy with it coz it was needed that and the chrome tips are slightly different to the original one from new looks better has a nicer rolled in tip and you cant see the normal pipe bit stick out from inside the chrome tip like you could on the original :D... i tried fitting it myself but was too rust seized on the bolts from the old one and i got this garage to do it for me today for £26 inc VAT and i saw the guy try the same as i did and could get the old one off so he got the power drill out and that sorted the seized bolts

Hi pauliepaul, where did you get your exhaust, copen in my local garage today as it dropped last night and they have rung round locally and can't find me one, with gasket, for less than, what they term silly money, £290!! I only need the rear pipe which they say on any other car would be about £40 with a £2 gasket! Any help greatly appreciated

i only needed to replace my back section like adam k's post but i felt that it would be a better job to just have the whole lot changed for new... i got mine from ebay and its a nice quality exhaust just like the factory one apart from the tailpipe chrome ends in my opinion look slightly nicer then the original from new ;)
