The Copenworld website is looking a bit dated now, and is running on obsolete software.

The world has moved on a lot since the website was created back in 2009, and I really need to update it to give it some more modern capabilities.

For that reason, I’m going to be moving the forum onto a new software platform.

You will continue to access the website at www.copenworld.com, but the look and functionality of the website will be changing a bit, so it may take some getting used to after the changeover!

I’ll be migrating all of the existing users and posts onto the new forum, and most of you should simply be able to log in with your current username and password after the launch. However, a few users may need to reset their passwords to gain access. In preparation for this, it would be a good idea now to review your registered details including your email address to make sure it’s all up to date, which you can do on your profile page here. By making sure it’s correct, it will be easier to request a password reset (which is automatically confirmed via your registered email address) if necessary when the new website is launched.

To whet your appetite, here are a few key benefits of the new website:

    - The forums will have a more modern look and feel.
    - It will have a "responsive" design, which means you’ll be able to use the forums from a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer.
    - You’ll be able to drag and drop photos into messages.
    - There will be the capability to ‘like’ posts and features (similar to Facebook).
    - You’ll be able to easily share information on Facebook and Twitter.
    - The Directory and Features pages (which are now very outdated) will be replaced with a new “Resources” page. This will have reduced content initially, but will grow over time.
    - The new software platform will also offer the capability to add more new features in future.

I’m hoping to have the new website ready by the end of July, but the timescale depends on what problems I encounter along the way. I’m working on the migration now, and I've got the basics done, but it’s likely to be a while yet before it’s completely ready to use.

The website will need to be taken down for a day or two for the update, but I’ll let you know when I have more news to share.

Fantastic news!! It should make Copenworlding an even better experience. Thanks so much for taking the trouble to do this. All your efforts are really appreciated. CW is the Old Badgers favourite forum :D:D

Just one small point - I wish I could upgrade myself to version 2.0. The original version 1.0 installed over 60 years ago is definitely showing signs of obsolescence, lack of maintenance and it's become really slow recently...:):D:eek:

I'm with you there. A 1967 model here, but still well out of warranty, and suffering from increasingly random crashes and reboots. :D

Haha, Badger - don't tell the wife! You'll be out on your ear and a new younger model Badger 3.1.exe will be installed!

Great news about the new-look Copenworld - defo with you there Badger; one of my 'comfort' sites when I'm feeling a tad down after a tough day. Looking forward to test-driving the new features with a new turbo up and running - wheee! :D:D

Oh, I'm starting to feel stressed now ;)

Microsoft has several thousand people working on Windows 10. There's just me working on Copenworld 2.0.... in the odd ten minutes of spare time here and there, bashing the keyboard and shouting at the computer when it doesn't do what I want it to do.

    Take it easy Mr Copenworld

Don't feel stressed, you have many grateful Copen drivers who really like the current Copenworld as it is, so any improvements next month or whenever you bring them out will be appreciated.

Another site I've been a regular on since 2002 changed to a format similar to what Copenworld describes here. I hated it at first but it looked much better on my phone and over a period of time I realised it was better than the original. I'm looking forward to seeing the new site.
All I need now is another Copen.:(

This is what the latest message boards look like.

That site is using XenForo forum software, and that's what I'll be using for Copenworld (but it won't be a red theme).

Lots of forums have migrated to XenForo recently - it's being actively developed, and it's fast becoming one of the more popular platforms for forum-based websites. Not everyone likes it (these things are always down to personal taste), but I've been trying it out for a few weeks now and I think it will be a positive step forward in the long-run.

Thanks Andreas, your kind words are appreciated :)

I'm really struggling with getting the styling right for the new site at the moment. It's not something I'm particularly skilled at, and I seem to be going round in circles. Perhaps another glass of vodka would help! :D

Sometimes all change isn't good but in this case the new site is way better than the old one in almost every aspect. Congratulations on the achievement and many thanks for taking the time and effort to do it.
