Hi, I have my first Copen, it's a 1.3L and I'm wanting to turn it into a bit of a weekend fast road/track car. All I've done so far is decent front discs, front pads and tyres. Is there anything commonly done like plugs, induction etc to give them a bit of go?

There are many performance parts available on Japanese websites for the Daihatsu Copen, but they are mainly for the 0.66L Turbo version. The 1.3L version, which was never sold in Japan, is only available in the European market. As far as I know, there aren’t performance parts available for the 1.3L engine to enhance its performance.

To improve handling, you could consider upgrading to sport coilovers. However, as you know, the Copen already has a low ride height, and most coilovers on the market lower the car by an additional 15 to 20 mm even at their maximum height setting. That’s the last thing you want to do, especially considering the current state of the roads. I found only one manufacturer that offers sport coilovers that maintain the original height of the Copen, but they lack adjustability: Showa Tuning Sports Suspension Set - Copen L880K - RHDJapan

Another option could be installing a custom-made turbo for the 1.3L engine, but I’m not sure if it’s possible due to the limited space and clearance.

If you are mad enough, the yrv 1.3 turbo engine is proported to fit the engine bay but I’ve never seen anyone who has done it.

takes you up to 135bhp apparently.

as for racing bits, Tim at compactmotorsport.com has a few tasty bits.

im rebuilding my 660 after head gasket replacement. The 660 is a mad little car and plenty throwable. We’ve got some good rural roads near us that ar3 lots of fun in a tiny car
